The Independent Achievers Network was founded in 1992 in Red Deer, Alberta by two women – Heidi Dandurand and Jo-Ann Grimwood, who wanted to continue networking after the Business Women’s Network ceased to exist. The two business women started a network with a limitation of one business per business category. In 1996, the business category restriction was lifted and Independent Achievers evolved to the wonderful networking organization you see today.
Independent Achievers (IA) is a Women’s Business Networking and Empowerment Group. We have been meeting on the second Thursday of the month in various locations in Red Deer, but now have switched to the third Thursday of the month.
Normally this is how the luncheons run: From 11:30-12:00 ladies arrive and socialize, 12:00-12:15 the Chairperson tells us what is happening with the group and we have introductions around the room. This activity is usually followed by a speaker on business women’s topics. Sometimes a networking activity will replace the speaker. At 1:00 pm some ladies need to leave, but for those who can stay, the venue is open for more networking/socializing all the way until 3 pm!
Luncheons include meal and hot beverages, a beautiful space conducive to networking and socializing, usually a fabulous guest speaker; sometimes a networking activity, the opportunity to give a self-introduction to the group, special attention to your triumph or some promotional activity during the toot for a toonie time, and there is also a share table where you can put flyers, pamphlets, business cards, etc. for the others in the group to take home.
Guests are always welcome!!!
For those who would like to become members, the perks include: Having your name, business, bio and picture on the website under the Membership Directory page, with a different member being the “Spotlight Member” each month. A discount on every luncheon. You would be able to have your business events advertised on the website under the “What’s Happening With Our Members?” page, be allowed to submit articles for the “Articles” page, display your business material at each luncheon on a share table, receive a special gift bag from the other members on joining, and be allowed to put your advertising gifts into future members’ gift bags.
Lifetime friendships are just a bonus!
